Q: We have very nice, expensive, high thread count sheets and while I love how soft and smooth they are, they're so slippery! My boyfriend moves quite a bit while he's asleep and by the end of the night the bedding has either slid entirely down to our waists or all the way on one side of the bed. I've woken up in the middle of the night with no sheets on at all, and once we came home to discover all the bedding had migrated to one side while I was at work because of gravity alone!

Is that the best your boyfriend could come up with???
Sheets don't just move on their own - Someone was in that bed while you were out...
I used to have the exact same issue in my bed. Even though my sheets weren't high quality, the slippery material of my mattress made it hard for my sheets to stay in place. I sleep by myself, and I would wake up in the middle of the night lying directly on the mattress and my sheets gathered at the foot of the bed...
Here's what resolved the problem for me : Using a flannel sheet as a mattress cover. I just cover my mattress with the flannel sheet, nicely tucked on each side of the mattress, then I make my bed as usual. The texture of the flannel creates a barrier between the slippery fabric of the mattress and the sheets. It should do the same for you. Well, I hope it does !

I am a chronic toss-and-turner. Boyfriend finally insisted on them, and he was right. Very cheap, very simple fix.
We use these: http://www.amazon.com/Grippers-Garters-Bedding-Straps-Suspenders/dp/B000BFWFJ8
They work very well. Took me a couple tries to figure out how to actually use them.
I've had the problem of my sheets and blankets migrating to the bottom of the bed, then off. Getting a real bed frame - with not just a head but a foot as well - has reduced the problem a lot.
Regarding the gravity directed migration - maybe you just have some unusually heavy mice?
I'll have to try the footboard solution, myself; my husband and I put our bed on a platform over three feet up, with no footboard, and lots of blankets. Every morning, the blankets have migrated to halfway off the bed, almost to the floor. The sheets also tend to go to one side or the other, and thanks to a foam topper, the fitted sheets don't fit well and stay on. Very frustrating. On the other hand, I get most of my exercise from climbing on and around the bed trying to make grabbing the blankets and yanking them up. Whew.
I recently bought a vintage sheet that had an extra piece of fabric sewn on the top and bottom edges to hold it in place. If you have a sewing machine, it should be easy to solve your problem.
My grandmother sews her top sheet so that the two corners that go at the foot of the bed are fitted like the bottom sheet is. It's really simple to do and keeps the sheets on all night!
It seems more like a physics issue not an issue of gravity. But it can happen. I had a similar experience with my sheets ( I have a 17 inch matress so sheets never stay on). I went down stairs to make breakfast and wash the dishes and came back to the whole top corner off of the mattress. It's sad that people have to jump to the cheating conclusion :(
Sheets can move on their own if you've got something hanging off the edge of the bed like a heavy blanket. If there's more blanket hanging off the side than on the bed, the small bit of weight will slooowly pull everything off. Same thing will happen with heavy sheets if you don't make the bed.
Now, if you totally made the bed and nothing was there to pull down your sheets, then yeah, either someone forgot to mention they took a nap or your bed seriously needs to be leveled. :)
As for the sheet stealing - buy two sheets, each person uses one. Instantly all is better.
bed suspenders I found mine at walmart.
the flannel sheet cure is a great one. I could never lift the mattress enough to get those suspenders on ( though they seem like a smart idea). tucking in a flannel sheet? That I can do. Thanks for the tip!
Have you checked if there's a monster under the bed?
I am going to third (or fourth?) the sheet suspenders solution. If you put them on the sheet before putting the sheet on the bed, you don't have to do much lifting of the mattress, just wiggle the suspenders under each corner. They are AWESOME. My husband is a wiggler too.
Over here in Germany, it's not common to use a top-sheet. Just a bottom sheet (usually a fitted sheet) and a comforter. The only difference is that you don't just wash the bottom and top sheet but the bottom sheet and the cover of the comforter.
And why do I tell you this? I feel that a comforter doesn't slip so fast if you don't use a top sheet in between. And there's less to get tangled in.
It won't cost you a thing to try, so maybe do this, before you head out buying velcro and suspenders and such.
You weren't even there and they moved?!? It's probably a ghost. ;)
Honestly, get new sheets. I got rid of satin sheets for this very reason. They were super comfy cozy, but everything slid off every night. I now have 600 thread count and theyre not slippery. What are yours made of that they are that slippery?
"Comfy-Snug" drawstring fitted sheets stay put better than any other sheet with no need for suspenders or clips. They are tight and smooth all the time and self adjust to the mattress thickness. There is nothing more comfortable that nice smooth sheets. It's like the first time getting in bed with new sheets. You just slide right in. Drawstring sheets give you that just made feeling night after night. Also the drawstring is tightened at the side of the mattress so there is no problem figuring out where the side is. www.drawstringsheet.com
Hey Let me give you amazing product that help you with the problem :

The top sheet pulls out because it is either too short or too slippery. A quick and neat solution: find an old non-slippery flat sheet and stitch it to the bottom of the slippery sheet. making it maybe a yard longer. This should work unless your mattress is too stiff and heavy to lift for tuck-in. I also second the idea of putting a flannel flat sheet or fitted bottom under the "real" sheet, to create needed friction. If switching to flannel sheets altogether, make sure they are all-cotton; if polyester, they can pill and you will be sleeping on sandpaper.
