How To Reuse Security Envelopes

Sorting through the year-end piles of paperwork left me with stacks of empty security envelopes which I have been loathe to simply toss. Their elaborate patters are actually incredibly graphic and cool and there are quite a few ways to put them to re-use — here are a few ideas.

Follow these directions to make the storage box shown above or scroll down for some links to more ideas for re-using security envelopes.

What You Need

Materials
Security Envelopes
Plain box
Glue

Tools
X-Acto Knife
Ruler
Pencil

Instructions

1. Measure the box, inside and out.

2. Cut the envelopes to cover the box, adding 1/4-inch tabs on top and bottom to wrap around the edges. Add 1/4-inch tabs on either side of two of the sides as well, to tuck under and create clean edges.

3. Glue the paper to the box, starting with the larger tabbed pieces of paper on the outside and working your way to the inside.
