Q: have recently snagged this possible Saarinen fiberglass chair from the trash. I would love some advice on how to secure the chair to the base. Please take a look at the pics and let me know what part(s) I may need to get. Also, sadly, the cushion was beyond repair and not taken home. Any ideas on where to get a replacement at a reasonable cost. Thanks for your help.

Have you tried turning the base upside down to see what's there? It looks to me as if the seat screws to something inside the base and the parts that are visible at the top of the base are simply to make it swivel smoothly. That would be the first thing I'd check.
I am no authority on how these things are constructed, however.
i work at a Knoll dealership. i would say your best bet would be to try to find a dealer and see if they can work with you on how to secure it. they can also help you pick out a cushion that will fit, or you could always have one made. an "authentic" cushion is probably going to cost you around $200 at a base grade fabric. also, the signature of Saarinen should be on the underside of the base if it is truly an S chair. unfortunately i can't find any more info on how it is constructed or parts without contacting someone from the factory.
Try here maybe? http://humemodern.com/about/about.html
I would have brought home the cushion anyway to use as a model for its replacement.
