Q: The vast majority of garbage we produce is from the packaging in our groceries. Do you have any suggestions on how to shop green?

Editor: Andrew, as a matter of fact, we do! We've written about this quite a bit. In general we advise buying whole foods, buying in bulk, and shopping at the farmer's market whenever possible. The closer to get to the source of the food, the less likely you are to have it wrapped in excessive packaging. Here are a few posts to get you started:
