When it comes to good, relatively inexpensive 5.1 gaming headphones, Turtle Beaches are a popular choice. I own a pair of Ear Force X41s and although the headphones and receiver work well, they've become a bit of an eye sore around my media center. The receiver doubles as a headphone stand, so the whole arrangement looks a bit bulky. By taking the stand apart, I was able to tuck the receiver neatly away, leaving my media center looking a whole lot cleaner.
1. Remove the metal stand where you normally place your headphones.
There is a small screw on the back which holds a black cover that keeps the stand in place. Once that is removed, you should be able to slide the metal stand out. Screw the cover back on.
2. Remove the base. Peel off the 6 rubber feet and you will find 6 screws. Once those are removed, the bottom cover should fall out. If it doesn't, put the screwdriver in one of the holes and pop it off.
3. From here you should see a black screw holding the base in place. Remove the screw and put the base back together (so you can keep all the parts together in case you ever want to attach them back).
You now have a compact receiver that you can keep cleanly tucked away. Since I leave my receiver on all the time, I don't need to access it very often and can keep it out of sight. I now keep my headphones in my media center drawer. Although I no longer have a headphone stand, my entertainment unit looks far more streamlined without the clunky receiver taking up space.
