How To Time a Move Between Rental Apartments?

Good Questions

Q: My lease will be up at the end of September and instead of renewing it, I am looking to move out to another apartment. I only need 30 days notice to move out, so I am going to do that by the end of next month. This will be my first actual move completely on my own so I'm a little confused as to what to do next. My question is, when should I sign the lease for my new place? Should I do that closer to the end of September or should I leave myself some overlap?
