As a kid who used to retreat to my closet floor to read in peace, I have a soft spot in my heart for reading nooks. Looking to carve out a little space, Ashley took the completely unused and unaccessible space under her stairs and transformed it into a delightful reading nook/playspace for her kids. Ashey's "little monsters" are lucky; I confess, if this were my house, I would likely be claiming this space for my very own!

Board and batten, crown moulding, nautical color scheme, cheery cherry stool, bookshelf, floor pillows- this playspace has it all right down to its own address and mail slot! This compact play space is the perfect space to escape from the hustle and bustle of family life, space designed specifically to spark a child's imagination.
Ashley's willingness to open up the space under her stairs had a wonderful payoff for her family. Even if you don't need a reading nook or compact play space, this project can be amended to create some additional storage in an entryway- perhaps the perfect place to store winter boots or other outdoor seasonal necessities?

The idea is really cute; especially the address but what about pictures of the inside of your reading nook?
What are the 'bags' on the bench? Looks messy to me-decore?
@Virgin Self-Doer: If you click through the link you can see pictures of the inside. Also, she describes the stuff on the bench as pillows. Those aren't really my style, but the reading nook is very cute!
Roseinthecity: Well, that teaches me for not reading through the article. Thanks much. I'm going back to view...:OD
I really like all the extra little shelves all over the place inside. :) And the recycled bead-board too!
Fun to be a kid at your house! (or a cat) I hate wasted space and you made the most out of this. Really cute!
