Hands On with Viddy: Instagram for Video

If you've been in love with Instagram for the past year like I have, you may want to check out Viddy, a video application available for the iPhone, iPod Touch and Apple iPad (Android and Windows Phone versions supposedly coming soon). Designed with the snapshot philosophy in mind, users can capture 15 second snippets of video, apply a stylizing filter, add music, then upload your mini-movie moment to a social network...

Design Interface
After downloading the free app, Viddy, you can set up an account through your Facebook, Twitter or email account. If you're comfortable with Instagram, you should feel quickly comfortable using Viddy, as the UI is very similar.

  1. The first button allows you to see videos from users you are following, featured videos and videos you liked.
  2. The second button is "What's Hot" which are the most popular videos on Viddy.
  3. The third middle button allows you to shoot video, similar to the Instagram photo taking button.
  4. The fourth button shows your friends videos and the last button is your Viddy profile and all your videos.

Shooting Video
You can use Viddy to shoot or upload a video from your library. After uploading your video, you can edit which frames you want to include. You can then apply the Effect you want, alongside video editing features such as white balance adjustment, advanced camera exposure, focus, audio metering, the ability to add visual effects, transitions, and music

The filters that come with the app are None, Vintage, Black and White or Crystal. There are more filters available in the Marketplace - some free, others that can be purchased. Each Effect is tied to a specific tune that you can apply to your video. When you're finished, the video gets compressed and shared onto Viddy's feed and pushed to Facebook or Twitter.
