How to:Clean Tarnished Brass

How about this for a "who woulda thunk?!" cleaning tip: ketchup can effectively clean brass or any metal that oxidizes. Apparently the readily available condiment is commonly used within the military as a cleaning agent for dingy brass hinges, doorknobs and any other metal hardware that need their shine restored. By applying an even layer of ketchup to separated/removed metal pieces overnight, the acidity of the vinegar in ketchup dissolves away the tarnish coating on aged metal. Simply wash away with warm water and dry the following morning, and be rewarded with "like new" sparkling hardware with nary any harsh chemicals. Hold the onions and mustard....
