Backyard, patio, balcony or just an afternoon at a nearby park...if you are spending time outdoors, pillows make your open air lounging space feel cozy and comfortable.

We like the idea of making pillows for use outdoors, it's such an easy project; fun to shop for and quick to complete. Make them in the morning and use them at the park in the afternoon.

A few links to get you started are below the jump:

Martha has a super quick how-to for outdoor pillows here - it suggests using vinyl tablecloths, but we'd go for bright oilcloth instead (like the pillows shown above the jump, available from New Mexico catalog). The WikiHow on making pillows is here.

Oilcloth is available at Mexican Sugar Skull in lots of patterns for $5/foot. It is 47" wide.

Some good sewing tips for oilcloth are here at Sew Mama Sew.

Remember that oilcloth does not fray, so you could sew your pillow right side out and simply finish the edges with pinking shears for an even quicker project.
