Recently, we had to bring out the old hammer and nails to repair some of the loose joining pieces of a cabinet. Unfortunately, some of the thin nails bent, because of the density of the hard wood...an annoyance for any weekend home handyman/woman. Then we remembered a helpful hint we once read about using beeswax to help lubricate your nails before hammering into hardwoods (some early carpenters and furniture builders supposedly used lard or tallow, but we find beeswax more hygienic). You can also use this technique with for easier drilling into harder woods. The bee's knees of a tip, huh?
