Over the weekend we rediscovered Last.FM, but what got to us was the fact that we could only listen to the tunes through our computer speakers. While we have an Airport Express, that only lets us stream audio from iTunes. Kind of a bummer if you want to stream audio from other sources like a web browser. That's when we discovered Airfoil...
Airfoil is a third-party software download that lets you hijack audio from sources like a web browser, Real Player, Windows Media Player, and Quicktime and wirelessly transmit them via your airport express to your speakers.
The software costs $25 and is worth every penny.
Do you guys have any other solutions for wirelessly transmitting music to your stereo?

why why why, does airfoil not work for linux? i would buy it in a heartbeat if it worked for ubuntu. i've wanted to stream music throughout my house forEVER. I have an ibook and dvd/stereo and thus refuse to spend money on airstation. i havent found a good free alternative. =(
Try the Itunes plugin GimmeSomeTune, which enables Last.fm
I use MediaMonkey as my media player, as it's by far the best software out there for managing a large music library, and it supports file formats (like FLAC) that none of the other jukebox and library management software supports.

To stream audio to my AirPort Express, I use the Remote Speakers Output Plugin, which works with both MediaMonkey and the venerable WinAmp:

OK, dumb question here - please don't be mean!!!
I have an iMac, Airport Express, and a wireless network, can I just hook up little speakers to the Airport Express and play music from my iTunes library that way? I used to have my stereo hooked up and do it that way. Since I moved, I have my Bose wave radio plugged directly into the iMac and I'm not using the stereo or Airport Express. I've never tried just speakers. Can I get rid of the stereo and just hook up speakers to the Airport Express? If so, any recommendations for a pair for $100?
