As a complete believer and follower of Attachment Parenting, we were quite excited to see a conference dedicated to wearing your baby taking place in Chicago on June 25 through June 28, 2008.
The 2008 Babywearing Conference: Carrying The Future, will take place at DePaul University's Lincoln Park campus and will feature babywearing workshops -- many of them are free and open to the public. The conference will also have an exhibit hall where all of the newest carriers and other baby products will be on display and available for purchase.
Some of the seminars being offered during the conference include "Babycarrier Design Theory and Process", "Toddlers and Preschoolers Overview", "Finding the 'Perfect' Carrier" as well as "Babywearing Men" and "Babywearing Budget", among others.
The keynote speaker will be Jeni Norton, founder of thebabywearer.com, and the panel discussion will be History of Babywearing. And we love the fact that there will also be a fashion show featuring carriers and accessories.
For complete schedules and registration information, visit the conference Web site. Are any of you planning on attending?

i'm going to the free events on Saturday. I'm so excited to see the new, WAHM businesses!
I want to say that you don't have to be an attachment parent to wear your baby. For those of us like me who practiced attachment parenting, babywearing is kind of a given, but for parents out there who just want practical benefits like freed-up hands, babywearing offers help; it's not just a kooky-crunchy thing at all.
i agree with genxmom. i do not practice attachment parenting but carry my little girl with an ergo several times a week. 1) it's good exercise, 2) she loves riding on my back, and 3) i find grocery shopping in brooklyn is a lot easier when i don't have to navigate a stroller down small aisles.
...and if you're a neat freak and can't figure out how you're going to find time to keep your house sparkling like me....just wear your baby when it's time to clean. I'm going to wear baby number two twice as much!
