I saw these exceptional concrete floors at the Clic Bookstore & Gallery last week and took pics to show you. These have been done beautifully in two really different styles. If you are ever considering doing a concrete floor in your home, I would refer to these pics and the company that did them.

This top one is a solid, warm ivory concrete floor with a gloss finish.

This one is done with a dark pigment wash and has more of a matte finish. Both of them are perfectly flat and crisp right to their edges.
The company that did these is called Hudson Concrete, which is located in NYC. They are concrete pros, and have done floors for a number of high end showrooms, which you can see on their site along with some detail on how they get good results.
I love concrete floors when they have been done this well. They can turn the coldest and cheapest of materials into something really warm and living — AND they are really good for radiant heat systems. Bookmark this resource.

concrete floors can look really fabulous and the idea of having a radiant system is something I could use this winter. At work our floor was made out of concrete and it was just terrible to stand on it for hours. Later that day my back and ankles would certainly feel it. That's the only reason why I would never consider getting them. Too hard of a surface.
Beautiful for commercial space, but in a home it's not so great. I lived with carpeted concrete for a while, and my bones couldn't get relief....I was standing on concrete all day at work.
Oh how I wish I could find/afford someone to do a similar effect in my apartment here in SF!
I agree with the previous 2 comments.
No matter how good looking concrete floors become, I dont want any. I, too, work on them all day long and it does take a toll on your back/joints, etc. I have tried every kind of shoe and it is still the same.
for public/commercial area only 1
I used to have one at my old rental apartment... and in the winter time, even I add thick warm carpet on it, with my wool socks on, my ankle still couldn't get rid of the coldness...
We have concrete floors in our apartment, and it did take some time to get used to walking without a cushion. Since we're in Texas, they're nice to have in the summer, but in the winter they're colder than I'd like to have. My biggest challenge is decorating with them... the place always looks like there's something missing. If anyone has any good pics/links, please share!
Hudson Concrete was scheduled to polish my floors and they never showed up and never called me back. I had blocked out the week for them so no other work was being done and so this pushed my project back a number of weeks since I had to find another company to do the work. I'm still in shock at how unprofessional they acted. There are good people out there so please don't give business to the bad ones.
