The Huia, a now extinct bird, is featured in this cut vinyl record artwork by artist Aimee Gruar. We love that the circular shape of the original record is still implied by its grooves and center label, but the shape has been completely cut away to show the silhouette of the once-beautiful species:
The work ranges in price from $70 for the single birds and $140 for the doubles. Each piece comes enclosed in its original record cover, featuring artists from Elvis to Dire Straits. Find these and many more amazing goods for the home at Native Agent of New Zealand.

these are cool, but wow... that seems a pretty penny for something that could easily be recreated at home.
I googled that bird, the silhouettes of birds she used are from the picture on their wikipedia page.
On a side note, why a bird cutout of a record? I don't get it.
nice, but way too pricey
I think aesthetically they look good, but I'm with radiobaby on this. Why? What's the concept? Not sure I get it either.

I love the idea of repurposing a recognizable object into something slightly frivolous. Honoring the extinct bird with the nearly extinct LP is tongue-in-cheek chic, in my book. Who needs a reason, it's clever! Now say if I were to DIY would I use a power scroll saw with the finest of blades? I like the silhouette appearance.
i agree with veslabeachgirl, there doesn't need to be a reason for art, and i LOVE that it's out of a record. super cool.
Yeah I agree too! It's a blackbird/silhouette thing, there doesn't need to be a record - bird connection to be great.
Please register my objection to the description of the LP record as a "nearly extinct" format.
