Itching to reduce your water consumption but don't have the cash or know-how for a new dual flush toilet? The HydroRight converts your old loo to a water sipping dual flusher. It easily installs in less than 10 minutes and costs around $30. Sound too good to be true? Check it out after the jump.
I came across the HydroRight by MJSI in my daily Amazon Deals this morning. According to MJSI, the HydroRight will save you 70-percent per "light flush" and works with toilets from a variety of manufacturers including Kohler, American Standard and Briggs.

The HydroRight works by providing you a dual flush option. The conversion processes replaces your flapper with the HydroRight converter and provides you with a split button: Small (for quick flush liquid & light waste removal) and Large (for full flush solid waste removal).

The quick flush setting saves up to 70% of the amount of water for liquids and paper while the full flush uses the same amount of water as without the HydroRight. Check the manufacturer's specifications and directions to see if it works with your toilet, but this seems like a great, easily and affordable option to save a good amount of water.

Thank you sooo much for posting this! I'm moving out to southern California soon and have been looking into every way possible to save water without having to replace the toilets, and this is perfect. Ahhh, so excited, I hope it works!
I installed a HydroRight last week in my half bathroom and I have to say I am not impressed.
It was straight-forward to install, took 20 minutes. What I don't like is how hard you have to push the button to get it to work.
Quick Flush:
My impression was that it would work by simply pressing the button once, but...it actually you have to press it down, hold it there until the toilet flushes. Not very good in my opinion since you basically hold down the button and let go when the waste is gone.
Solid Waste:
The larger button works much better but it is difficult to press. I had friends over last week and they had a hard time pushing the button. She is an average build woman and is not afraid to push things around.
Lastly, the know is constantly getting loose so you have to retighten by rotating it counter-clockwise.
I bought two for each of my toilet but I think I'll send the other one back.
Good luck to you guys. I would avoid buying it.
this thing works really good, can tell it definatley saves water, on my next day off i'm going to calculate the exact amount
a major drawback is how they mislead how easy it is to install and use
the installation in itself is easy, but you have to do quite a bit of tinkering with the water valve to make sure it works well, the first time i tried i was frustrated, took it back out and was going to return it, but then i went to their website and looked at all the troubleshooting tips, took some work, but now it works beautifully
ps. if you have to keep the button pushed for the quick flush, your not saving any water, you have to take the time to set it up properly, then you'll save lots of water
on my day off calculated the water savings, to do this turn the water supply off, flush the toilet and mark the water drop, and then fill tank with measuring cup, the solid flush button takes about 6 litres, the light flush took a little more than 3.5 litres, so save almost 2.5 litres per flush, we flush about 15 times a day for non solid so almost 38 litres a day (family of 2) so about 13500 litres per year, not bad
Fake Plumbing certificate. As it turns out the UPC plumbing certificates on the Hydroright box and on the unit itself are fake. Meaning they are saying that they are code approved but are not. This can be verified by checking them out at IAPMO.org. Why would a product that is supposedly good have to resort to fake certifications?
I installed one of these last night. It did take some tinkering with the float but after several tests I have it working perfectly now.
The HydroRight is the only drop-in dual flush converter to pass the
rigorous PS-50-2010 standard (including 250,000 cycle testing) and
IAPMO (International Plumbing and Mechanicals Officials), IAMPMO Green
and Canadian UPC certification. The HydroRight is GreenSpec certified
from the U.S. Green Building Council. For additonal information on our products, please visit our website at www.gomjsi.com
We live in Atlanta, and recently installed one of these after visiting a Green "fair" last month, featuring companies that make lots of eco friendly products. We installed the HydroRight and didn't experience any issues pressing the buttons or ensuring that the waste was properly flushed down the toilet. In fact, we wonder why we didn't act on this sooner. This was one of several products we installed after visiting this Green product event, and by far, our favorite.
I think is the unit I installed and it works but... I have broken so many nails down to the quick pushing the flush button. Is anyone else experiencing this?
