Color Inspiration: As soon as we purchased this home we knew we wanted to paint the twins' room green. We wanted to create a space that was warm and cozy, and very gender neutral. We wanted it to be childlike and whimsical, but readily adaptable for them as they get older.

Color Inspiration continued: We used red as the compliment to green throughout the room to really enliven the space. The red tones of the floor also help to to this. We were inspired to add built-in beds by a post on apartment therapy, and chose bright white bedding for its functionality (easy to launder, bleach, and replace as needed) and crispness. The tree branches and birds are decals, so easily removed when we want to make a change.

Tip for Using Color: We love using bright colors throughout our home, but find that furniture and trim in neutral colors helps to keep the rooms grounded. We added the built-in beds and cabinet, and painted the beds, trim and ceiling in a bright white. The other furniture is black and we changed all of the hardware in the room to dark bronze. This keeps the room from looking too "kiddy" and makes the other bright colors really stand out. Complimentary colors are great (green with red/orange accents) and we don't like being too "matchy"...we used lots of different shades of green without trying to make them match up.

Colors Used: A custom-mixed green for the walls by Mythic paint, with green baskets, rag rug and accents. Lots of red and orange: little chairs, curtains, wood flooring, runner, and pillowcases. Primary color and striped accents everywhere else!
