Name: Ida
Location: Paris, France
I'm Swedish, and moved to Paris six years ago. I have a job that I love in interior design, which is great, but frustrating sometimes when you're constantly surrounded by beautiful things and apartments you can't afford in real life. When you're a young couple in Paris, you can see a lot of bad places, before you finally get somewhere you can call home.
This is our first real apartment, the apartment where I finally could put my own touch into decorating(I'm lucky enough to have a boyfriend that couldn't care less about interior design, so I don't have to compromise at all!). I think our apartment is a great mix between my Swedish roots and new-found French inspiration. We were on a strict budget, so it's really a mix between flea market finds, IKEA and a little help from my generous bosses. I love when people come over, and tell me that the apartment is very, very me, because I love it!
Thanks, Ida!

It seems unfinished?
Cute cat though. Looks just like mine!!! I guess all black cats look alike but the owners are always convinced that theirs is unique hehe.
No way, tangereen - that's TOTALLY my cat!!
Our house is feeling this way right now. We have been getting the "big ticket" large furniture pieces and necessities, but we still need art and character. Everyone has to start somewhere and this apartment has the potential to be a unique, personalized space. I wish you the best in your new place! :)
Very simple, but I like!
BTW, where is your couch from?
I love the reused wood panel as a "cork board". Great idea!
That first picture is lovely. It could be a postcard. I like this space; very quiet and relaxing.
has some great things going for it...but could use a lot more color or texture.
i think the most colorful thing i saw was the coat rack.
A big dominant piece needs to go on that wall in the first photo ... otherwise great!
I would say that light is at a premium there, so how about a big mirror on the wall in the living room?
I love, love, love the velvety black cat. There's just something about black cats - they are beautiful and edgy and a bit mysterious. I've owned two solid black cats, and they were both so special.
I like the apartment. It has a minimalist look, and I would add some punches of color through art and accessories to the living room.
It looks very neat and clean.
Art on the wall next to the couch might look nice, but I also like the relaxing feel of blank space. Very nice space!
I love the cat.
Boring.
beautiful light and lovely, soothing pallette...you are off to a great start. there is something about your place that just makes me wish i were there...
Agree with all the cat lovers and black cats are special. My current one is named Aberdeen in honor of Scotland where they think black cats are lucky!
But I digress, I really like the space, it seems huge for a Parisian apt. and I also like the quiet , calm of it.
The bedroom is perfect and I love it. I don't really feel anything for the rest of the space but I wouldn't say it's missing missing color, just dimension and different textures. But yeah, I really love that bedroom and the textiles.
Love the white walls and the nubbly sisal carpet, but that living room looks like an office. It's not quiet and calm - it's lifeless and empty. There's almost no decoration - which is rather the point of decor - but too much clutter for Ida to claim strict minimalism.
Frankly I'd expect Basement Cat's apartment to be a bit more spicy.
I know there have been comments here and there claiming your space is too sparse or blank, but frankly, I couldn't agree less. For me, your home seems very personal, clearheaded and composed. I would love to live in an apartment as serene and quiet as this!
It feels like its missing something
Pretty, but it needs some color, or texture, or something....
How lucky not to have to compromise, otoh there's so little anyone would find outright objectionable....
How is that white bedspread not covered with a film of black cat hair, though?
I like the openness of the white, which is also very calming. Id also like to see the wide expanse of walls utlized, maybe with a mirror or one large statement piece, or a large grouping of small personal items.
what a lovely space! I can totally see the scandinavian influence :)
Your apartment is bright, clean and fresh, and if it inspires you and you are happy, bravo!! I am seeing your Swedish simplicity, and I likey!
too bland...
it's ok looking, but what is so uncompromisingly personal about it? white walls, no real interesting pieces of furniture or pops of color, absolutely no character. i don't get it. sorry. the cat is lovely.
Wow, citichick & marcelaz, whatever happened to "If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all'? It's a very nice space, just because it isn't your cup of tea why slam it? Not very nice at all. Lame on you!
Love this apartment! I'm moving to Europe in a month and I know how hard it is to find affordable furnishings and decor that are not just IKEA. Your space is lovely and I think with time, you will have an even more enviable collection. Adorable cat by the way :)
Serene, with good bones.
All this, and Paris, too!
That's such a big apartment for Paris. I'd love to check out the Parisian flea markets and add pieces to this place.
I love your place! So lucky to have something that size in Paris with everything so pricey. A great home in a great city. Love your style.
I think that when you have carpet like that, minimalism is imperative. Nicely done.
Paris is, at least for me, visually intense. I would be happy to come home every day to a clean, quiet, minimal space like this. My own personal black cat prefers to roost on black cushions, for camouflage, so I'd probably have to add some of those.
Makes my minimalist heart beat quicker :)
I agree, it's serene, with good bones. Love those bedroom windows.
i love the WHITE all over the place - with the unexpected pop of color from the Eames hang-it-all.
I would think, with a career in creative design, this plain and simple (also serene, relaxing, clean, etc...) backdrop is the perfect setting to get your creative juices flowing.
Right now, my house is very MCM/country - so this is all I think about when it comes to design/art...I often wish I was dedicated enough to "wipe the slate clean" and go all-white (or white-wash, whatever...) I think it would get my mind going in more places - and open up new avenues for my art...alas, I work 5-7 days a week so there is no more time for redecorating in my schedule. Or finishing all my "in-work" Eames chair projects...
I don't care that this looks a little plain to some people, I think it is perfect - less design baggage, more mental breathing space :-) GOOD JOB!!
by the way...where is that couch from?! it looks familiar...but i cannot figure out where I have seen it before in a similar fabric.
I like the cat and the collage of photos and envy the amount of light each room gets! I'd love to see something on that living room wall maybe a vivid color or some art
I like the couch. I agree it needs something more ....maybe just a tad more color.
That cat is so gorgeous, looks like my own black feline friend Delilah.
just a suggestion: what if you had a white neon piece on the big blank living room wall, or some flourescent lights configuration, in different shades of warm + cold bulbs?
I don't understand all the "how spacious" comments about this apartment... I've seen many apartments in Paris and for an "average" (i.e., neither fabulously wealthy nor starving student-type) couple, Ida's apartment does not seem particularly large, except that the lack of clutter makes it seem bigger... It does not even have the high ceilings of many Parisian apartments that make them seem bigger than they are.
Anyhow - while I agree with the comments about adding artwork, I like the uncluttered tranquil feel of the place. It must be wonderful coming home to it after a long day's work in the city.
I really like this apartment. The use of white and pale colors make it feel serene. It will be perfect once you find some artwork for the blank walls in the living room.
