We've posted about the IDEA USB card speaker when it was first announced, and always wanted to know how it sounds in real world use. Our wish was granted yesterday when we dropped into one of our favourite design destinations in Los Angeles: A+R.
A+R owner Rose Apodaca noticed us curiously spying the card-sized IDEA USB speaker and was kind enough to lend us her iPod to test out the unit's audio capabilities. But first, we have to stress how beautifully crafted the small unit is and the satisfying in-hand construction. The packaging is also notable for its attention for detail, making it a good gift idea for that someone in your life who loves their iPhone, iPad or other mp3 player.
How does it sound? Don't expect surround sound or even a dedicated computer speaker audio performance. But considering how small and svelte the speaker is, the USB powered speaker (good for 2 hours) is impressive for bolstering audio for the cell phone or audio player enough to cause fellow store customers to turn around to see who was blasting the music up near the cashier.
Available in Matte Gold, Shiny Black and Stainless for $74 at A+R.
