Q: My soon-to-be three year old wants "everything pink" for her birthday party (but not in a princess or ballerina way). We are planning to invite four (3yo) guests to our home (maybe 10am-12pm?). Hoping for a backyard party, but will pull it inside if it rains. I am looking for ideas about activities, food, favors, etc., to go with the pink theme.

Editor: You might check out some other parties themed around a color like Creed's Yellow Party and Malak's Green Party. Readers, what ideas do you have?

White Enamel Flatwa...
We did a Pinkalicious themed birthday party! My daughter loves the book. It's fun without being overly princess...have fun!
We did a pink breakfast party for my daughter's 3rd birthday in May - pink pinata, streamers, flowers, strawberry frosting on cupcakes...happy party planning! Here's my blog post about it: http://skirtastop.wordpress.com/2011/05/17/a-very-pink-third-birthday-party/
One of my twin girls is pink-obsessed as well, and we recently celebrated their 4th birthday with a pink/'Belle and Boo' party. My sister-in-law made cupcakes with different shades of pink icing. I also decorated the food table with various glass cups/jars filled with pink candies, and had 3 different colours of balloons - dark pink, regular pink & white, in bunches around the room & at the front door. I also put some pink & white streamers up (minimal). I kept some of the other decor 'less pink' so it wasn't too crazy pink -- e.g. yellow floral table cloth, white dishes, multicolour banner. You could also get a bouquet of flowers in different shades of pink. As for pink food, I didn't do this myself, but you could bake some bread with red food colouring in it (so it's pink), then make tea sandwiches from that. Alternatively, white bread with strawberry jam and/or strawberry cream cheese could also work as pink sandwiches. Cookies with pink icing (or pink food colouring in the dough) is another idea, and a platter of different berries (raspberries, strawberries, blueberries & blackberries) is 'sort-of' pink...and to drink - pink lemonade (or pink kool-aid).
For activities, I pre-painted $1 wooden frames from Michaels (pink, of course), and had markers & stickers the kids could use to decorate their frame. That was a big hit. I also did the 'musical gift' game - wrapped an inexpensive toy in many layers of wrapping paper, and the kids would pass it around until the music stops. Whoever has the gift gets to unwrap a layer. Whoever unwraps the last layer, gets the gift!
This website also has the most gorgeous party ideas, including lots of non-princess pink themes: http://www.hwtm.com/kids_parties

...pink lemonade (santa cruz organic lemonades are on sale everywhere. the strawberry, cherry, and raspberry flavors are all great).
fresh berries, of course.
strawberry ice cream w/ those crispy pink wafer cookies.
This looks cute. I also like the polka dots idea.

Strawberry Shortcake?
how about pink hippos, or pink elephants on parade a la fantasia?
I think a berry theme would be super cute! Strawberries, raspberries, cherries, etc.
Watermelon also tends to be more hot pink than red.

This pink birthday party is so beautiful! It would be a great inspiration.

I have had a P party before! It is so fun. Everything that starts with the letter P. Pink, purple, popcorn, pink lemonade, pears, pepporoni pizza. It's fun.
Eloise has alot of pink, is ornery and sweet, princess of the Plaza and silly like any young girl--using the book as a theme enables the use of pink and should open doors to activities (pink pillow fight, ie)
We did the exact same pink theme for our daughters second. We did pink fruit for the kids and pink iced cupcakes. It was late afternoon so we did pink cocktails for the adults ;-) I did pink plates utensils and table cloths. For decorations I did a bunch of pink balloons in thee or four shades some in helium some regular air (the kids loved kicking them around)
For an activity I did a pink playdoh table. Toys r us you can buy individual colors for 0.99, I cleaned them out of everything between white and red. For a favor I sent the kids home with a pink playdoh some pink candies with a few of the balloons tied to it
Play music by P!nk.
For my daughter's 4th birthday we had a pink poodle theme since she loves dogs. She wore a pink poodle skirt and I made a pink poodle cake I saw in Family Fun magazine. There were also pink Cake Pops. Oriental Trading and other sources have a pink poodle themed birthday set and you can also find a french poodle birthday set online that would fit the pink theme.

Piggies! It's pink but the total opposite of princesses and ballerinas
I would say we have had a pink party for every one of my daughter's 7 parties. She loves pink but we've never done princess. Take whatever she loves and you can go pink with it. We have done Butterfly, Art, Chinese Tea Party, Miniature party, and more, but we've done it all in pink! I'd just pick her favorite thing of the moment and turn it pink. You'd be amazed at what you can find once you choose a theme and start looking. Once of my favorite favors this time of year is going through the back-to-school bins and finding crayons, glue sticks, etc. For a 3-year old these would make great favors. Tie them all up in a cute bag with pink ribbon. I think a few nice favors that kids can really use are so much better than the plastic ones that are in the theme but end up in the trash.
If she just likes pink in general, and not any specific pink theme, you can adapt anything and just restrict the color palette. For instance, we had a rainbow party last year with a rainbow-batter cake and a bunch of splash pools with water stained by gel food coloring (and everyone got a travel-size shampoo bottle to squirt at each other and take home). You could do the same with various shades of pink rather than different colors.
A twister game on a old bed sheet with only pink hues for the dots. Digging for pink treasures in a sand box (for which you can buy pink sand!).
Lots of animals come in pink as well: flamingos, poodles (okay, not naturally), fish, bugs, corals, worms, pigs, pink river dolphins, armadillos, mole rats, etc. (Okay, the last two are not pretty.) You could decorate with pink animals or have games or masks designed around them.

Thanks to all who have responded...some great ideas here!! (molliedivine, we did pig theme last year - they are her favorite thing!)
For those who are curious, I decided on a pink/cupcake theme. So far, I'm planning:
Food: homemade banana-strawberry popsicles, pink frosted yellow cupcakes, dried cherries, pomegranate seeds, strawberry yogurt, pink marshmallows, watermelon and pink lemonade.
Activities: I definitely plan to use the pink playdoh idea (thanks, ebd816), the twister idea ounds great, hopscotch, hula hoops, and a cut-and-glue activity with these cupcakes: http://vol25.typepad.com/vol25/freebie-build-your-own-cupcake.html
I'll hang a pink sheet from the laundry line for background for photo ops.
Thanks again for all the ideas! It was great inspiration to brainstorm with you all!
we had a very pink party for our daughter that you might like to see ;)
