Q: As much as I think this dresser is beautiful, it's not really my taste and more than a little feminine for my son's room. Any suggestions on how to masculinize/modernize it a bit?

Editor: My first thought was to paint some stripes or perhaps paint the whole thing grey or navy. You might just simply change the hardware on the drawers. Readers, what do you think?

Slate blue might be nice with some brushed nickel hardware. My initial thought was a navy paint job, too. Good luck!
I'm with painting it a masculine color... I was thinking navy or black, depending on what else you had going on in the room. Though I like the hardware myself, changing that might be a good option too... especially with the vast selection out there.
I agree, maybe a nice dark grey or a dark navy blue? gold hardware?
Black/steel grey/dark blue with "brushed"/tarnished brass hardware, I think. Or, alternately, dark red or grass green with brushed nickel hardware.
Painting it a boyish color to match the room. Adding some boyish drawer pulls. Maybe even applying some boy fabric to the front of the door and to the sides.
PS - Here are a few examples of what I mean,

My initial thought was also a paint job, possibly dark grayish blue. Maybe paint the drawer fronts a slightly different shade (or another color altogether), so that the contrast makes the eyes go first to those "masculine" corner edges of the drawers, and not the curvy, more feminine shapes elsewhere.
I wouldn't pain, I would switch out the hardware for something a little simpler like cupped pulls and cut out the front of that door and replace it with glass or a cool piece of fabric or even a mirror.

scroll to the right till you get to the big blue china cabinet. I was looking for something else and searched "blue dresser fruniture" under yahoo images and found some really masculine peices.
Chop off the curvy legs and attach locking casters.
if you just don't like it, sell it and get something you like! if you do like it, but the problem is just about societal perceptions of masculine/feminine, then be a trailblazer and squash those perceptions! to me, it looks like a child's dresser, not necessarily like a girl's dresser :)
If you want a quick fix, I agree with what most are saying - paint it a dark color (grey, navy, black). Even an orange or green in the right setting would look great and be more boyish. The idea of changing the door is a good idea too. Something with a flat front would definitely make it more boyish. I had another idea; if you painted stripes on it, you eye would go to the straight lines first, and kind of bypass the curves (as someone else said), however, that would be a lot of work.
Oh yeah, and definitely change the hardware!

Wozza! I am totally inspired.
Paint it navy blue (or any moody blue) and switch out the hardware with something dark.
Black!
If you can, the most significant change would be the bottom of this with less curvy legs. And of course, the paint job and hardware upgrade.
I would chop off the curved parts on top and bottom, change out the hardware and paint the body green, red or blue. The fronts of the drawers and the inset on the door I'd paint with chalkboard paint and then write on them with chalk what goes in each one. You could also paint the side insets with chalkboard paint and let your son go to town.
If you then put casters on the bottom and a cart style handle on the side it would look like a utility cart.
Instead of traditional drawer pulls rope with a long wood bead threaded into it would be fun.
