I was laughing with a friend the other day about our childhood bedrooms and the silly things that we loved about them. When I was eight, I had a huge poster of Goofy on my wall -- hung diagonally, obviously! While I wouldn't change a thing about my childhood and the silliness that abounded, it did get me thinking about my dream childhood bedroom, from an adult perspective.
I came up with a few things that I wouldn't mind having now!
1. Crystal Ball Table Lamp from Land of Nod. I'll take two! $149
2. Puppy! What kid didn't have this on his/her dream list? This one's name is Timmy. Available at your local shelter.
3. A bed that a kid can truly grow into: the Raleigh Upholstered Square Bed from Pottery Barn Kids, $499 - $1,234
4. Nautical Sheet Set from Land of Nod, to sail away into sleep on. $16 - $119
5. A favorite book, and favorite activity: Danny the Champion of the World, by Roald Dahl. $6.99 from Barnes & Noble.
6. A globe to plan adventures on! The Vintage 1960s Black Oceans Globe, available on Etsy, $75
7. A sweet, handmade print to cheer up the days. "Let the Sun Shine" in print by Slide Sideways, available from Assemble Shop & Studio, $18.
8. Lastly, a bright rug to tie up the room. This one's my favorite, a navy Chevron rug from Land of Nod, $179 - $599.

This is not the dream bedroom of an 8 year old. This is the dream bedroom of an adult decorating for a child.
That said, I think the items are a lovely collection.
I think I was about 8 the one time my parents let me contribute to decorating my bedroom. That meant pink walls, a unicorn border, and posters of kittens. Besides the kitty posters, that bedroom endured through college (though I tried my best to hide it under angsty Nine Inch Nails posters through high school years.) I don't think many 8 year olds are going to win awards in design. :)
You can be an adult and have this room! I'm pretty sure ive seen this room in Houzz.
I have that exact globe, but I bought it in my 40s ! Luckily it was only $19 in an Prescott, Arizona antique store instead of $75 from some hipster...
8? or 28? I juuust redecorated my living room/office and it looks like a little girl with an Alice complex decorated it. And I love it! So does my husband despite the glaring femininity of the space. As long as the space makes you happy!
Yep, looks like my room (though no upholstered bed frames for me, and my accents are green and blue rather than the red and black.). And I'm 30!
My daughter is nearly 8 and she loves Roald Dahl, so that is spot on. She has a lovely globe, but it isn't the black one like that. She is allergic to dogs, so gorgeous Timmy would have to go, plus we don't believe in dogs/cats in the house. She loves bright yellow, but would probably prefer hot pink (however I'm assuming you went for more gender-neutral, not that I think boys can't have pink!) She would probably prefer a striped rug to the zigzags.
But all up, it this room would be pretty close to what she likes! Her brother (almost 5) would love it too.
One of my girls is now 8 and I can only comment on what she likes.
Um.......... stacks of books on the bedside table - Roald Dahl and Pippi Longstocking plus anything magic/fairy related. A full size bed with a pink/purple dot comforter and tons of blankets and pillows. A small sheep skin rug to lounge on and photos of friends/siblings and activities on all surfaces.
A small desk and a thin cabinet full of crafting/coloring/wool and tape will just about do it. Maybe this isn't a cool enough concept for this sight since chevron, owls and West Eim decor are missing. However for my little girl she and her friends seem to enjoy it just like it is.
I have that print hanging over my bed and I'm 30 :-)
Um I think this room is perfect for an adult too. Pretty sophisticated for a kiddo but I like it!`
