IKEA is reportedly planning to bring transforming small space apartments to the masses. The idea, already popular for individual projects, is what the Swedish furniture giant has been quietly testing.
For two years, the company has been renovating an apartment in Malmö, Sweden, testing movable walls and sliding power sockets. If brought to market, they would allow residents to reshuffle rooms in their apartments, bringing more flexibility and privacy.
Head of Research Mikael Ydholm says the products are another three years from hitting the market.
