The release of the new IKEA catalog has become a rite of summer. Janel highlighted some of the best ideas from their stylists to try at home and Max described some of his favorite products from the press preview. I'm most interested in what's new for kids.
Compared to past years, there really aren't many new kids products in the 2013 catalog. (Although IKEA does sometimes roll things out during the year that don't make it into the catalog.) The standouts come from the anticipated PS collection.
Above are my picks for the most interesting family and kid products in the 2013 catalog as well as a notable price reduction on the Duktig play kitchen.
The catalog is already landing in mailboxes around the country, but you can also view the digital version here.

Nomade Express Slee...
Does anyone know when these prices go into effect?
I really want to color that fabric!
I was just there yesterday, and the price drop hadn't gone into effect yet on the kitchen. Glad I waited to get it (until our next trip), as I didn't know it was going to drop! Also, love the side tables, might be exactly what we are looking for!
I can't wait to buy that play kitchen when my daughter gets older!
Does anyone have experienc with the INGOLF Junior Chair? Looks like it could be the perfect solution for my tiny 3 year old.
our friends use the junior chair @peachypear! it is perfect for teeny kids who are desperate to be out of a booster!
I don't have kids but i really want that fabric and color it and I love the side table with the four bowls. Nothing wrong with an adult having stuff designed for kids is there? ;)
I just choked a little. We brought the kitchen in February... Oh well, she loves it.
Does anyone know the approximate seat height of the Ingolf chair? The overall height is on the website, but not the seat height. Our dining table has an apron and there isn't enough room to fit our two-year-old on a booster on a chair under it.
@hhuber INGOLF is about 20 1/2 inches seat height. Hope it fits!
We love the Ingolf Junior chair. We Have 6 of them, one for each child (ages 2-6) and a couple extra for when friends come. My six year old still loves it, even though she has the option of using a normal chair.
what ages are appropriate for the kitchen? how long will kids use it? Yup, new mom here :)
@marushka Thank you! This might be the perfect solution for us.
I just bought the kitchen a few weeks ago (without the top part). My daughter is almost 14 month and absolutely loves it! The way she plays will probably change as she gets older but even at this age it has been completely appropriate and has been keeping her occupied for hours. Only issue we have is the doors are a bit hard to open for such a small kid and sometimes she tugs at them and can't open but I'm sure she will figure it out soon. Also, my daughter is very tall for her age but since she is still so young removing the leg covers has helped to make it more at her level.
@bagelsmom we got the kitchen for our daughter when she was about 18 months. Now at 3 she still plays with it every day and I suspect she'll continue to play with it for at least 2 more years. Not sure when they're 'over' the play kitchen.
We did not put on the feet until my daughter was 3 (she's very short for her age) and we still haven't put on the magnets for the doors (she couldn't open them in the store and wanted her to be able to open it at home). She probably could do them now with ease, but we have a second little one that will be playing with it in the next 6 months or so, so we decided to keep them off.
We don't have the top, it's been on my wish list for awhile, hopefully they'll still sell it separately (since the price drop is the same as the cost of the top).
That IKEA side table would be great for beer caddies outdoor at a bbq. Just sayin'.
Thanks, all! Sounds ideal. Thanks @marushka for the seat height, too.
@Bagelsmom We got a very similar kitchen when my daughter was 18 months old. 2 years and over seemed ideal. Not sure about an upper limit, but 4 and 5 year old friends play with it.
I buy all my kid's furniture from IKEA. 3 points: Great colors &
Same day IKEA deliverytomorrow! & Cheap!!!
