As part of its Random Acts of Life Improvement plan, IKEA is giving out gazillions (ok, 35,000!) of its ubiquitous blue bags today in cities all across the country. It's happening just in time for folks to have it handy to tote around summertime goodies for Memorial Day weekend and beyond, such as picnic and beach outing necessities.
Or, if you are as creative as Adriana (shown above, via IkeaHackers), you could create a new item for your summer wardrobe!
The giveaways are not happening at stores, but in well populated public spaces in major cities. Details will be pushed out on Twitter - here are the twitter accounts to find out where and when, near you:

Thanks but no thank Ikea - I have about 8 of those bags. That's because I forget to bring them *every* time I go to Ikea and have to buy more. They were very helpful during our recent move because they are ginormous and quite strong.
i use my IKEA bag as laundry bag and it works great(city living = no washer dryer in the apartment). i've actually gotten quite a few "why didn't i think of that" from people at the laundromat.
I've had those bags since they were yellow. I can't imagine wearing them, though—so uncomfortable.
i paid 99 cents for mine, and then 59 cents for a new one when I forgot it one time
I am see more people using the bag for laundry.

I had a few pairs of underwear made up from Ikea bags....they're just so durable! Thanks IKEA!
They are great for the beach. :-)
After a day of shopping, I used to put all my individual plastic shopping bags into one of these big blue Ikea bags to transfer them from my car to my home. I am of the 'make 1 trip' school. The wide straps are comfortable.
But now I use reusable shopping bags, which can fit a lot more than the plastic ones. I can carry them on my shoulder.
That picture just looks... SCHWEATY.
I don't know about wearing them, but I use one as a beach/pool bag. I didn't want to have an ikea bag, because I'm vain, so I made a fabric 'shell' for the bag and added some pockets and a longer strap so it could be worn cross body.
They gave me one in Cincinnati yesterday - perfect timing! I packed cooking and camping supplies in it for a music festival this weekend. :)
Is no one going to point out that this girl is WEARING an IKEA bag?!?
Mess.
