We're suckers for a good IKEA hack, especially when our favorite pieces are used in the process. We've mentioned how great credenzas can be as media cabinets — so if you're strapped for cash or just need an excuse to get your hands dirty, this is for you.
Using the Alex Drawer Unit and AVSIKT Roll-front cabinet, Mark Soares built what he calls an Alex Credenza. The AVSIKT cabinet was a bit smaller than the Alex units, so Mark had to place 1/2 inch thick pieces of wood on both sides of the cabinet. Once he did that, all three pieces were completely flush in the front and back. He attached the pieces using simple wood screws!
He found the cabinet to be the perfect place to store his record player and other media. We'd recommend painting the additional pieces of wood white to match the Alex drawer units. If you used this credenza to hold media with cords, holes could easily be drilled in the back to conceal cords.
