IKEA Hacks in Justin's Map Room

Following last weeks good question about the IKEA stainless table, we heard from Justin about two IKEA hacks he's completed, one using the same table legs...

He says, "I made a table using those great ikea legs and then stenciled/painted what used to be my old desktop...

And he also shares a "creative way to take an ikea lack bookshelf, turn it on its side and make a tv stand (tv still to come). You can buy a box of legs (i think they are called Cappa) and just drill holes for them."

Nice job, Justin! The IKEA hacks look good - a little customization goes a long way....and we really like the look of the giant map wall treatment.

did he shorten the table legs? They are 28" tall which is desk height...but they look shorter in the photo...

Oh I see, he used the shorter size that is available. very nice.

If you plan to put much weight on your lack table I suggest adding some legs in the middle, or perhaps moving the legs from being at the corners to a position that is further inward.

Baltimorerowhouse has a point that it won't hold the weight of a large TV but you can't move the legs in because the lack is hollow everywhere except the edges. Supports of another sort would probably be a good idea though...maybe large, long L brackets in the studs of the walls under the top "shelf"?

eh, you could liquid nails those legs in the middle to provide more support.

what about using casters instead of legs on the lack, a la sfgirlbybay? would you still need support in the middle?

wow - glad you guys like it so much. lets see:

the map was done by my old roommates as a move in gift (which sure is nice). they took a plain old map to kinkos and blew it up 1200%, then plotted it out and mounted it to foamcore - then mounted that to the wall. Gotta love industrial designers.

I already bought legs for the middle of that lack-hacked tv stand, i just need to install them. Thanks for the comments!
