IKEA's Grundtal organization and storage systems are now used in almost every room in the home. Although this is a different model from a different retailer, we think the substitution could easily be made. We love this use in the bathroom to hold shower necessities that might otherwise be cumbersome in the shower. A few more ideas for using this set up in your own loo are after the jump!
Though we like the way the set up is utilized above, a few thoughts instantly came to mind. First, we would totally get our towels wet if stored in our shower, even if up high and the other was, who has that many back-brushes? We love the set up, but think it would also work out well utilized out of the shower holding anything from towels, the next day's clothes, robes, jewelery, hair styling instruments and more.
How could you put this simple set up to use in your bathroom? Let us know in the comments below!
*Note: Thanks to all those who caught our slip up. Hopefully you'll see past our error and help us think of more ways to put a simple shelf with hooks like this to use in a bathroom space!

None of the items in the image for this post are from the gruntal line. Additionally, ikea makes part of the gruntal system specifically for the bathroom: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/series/12817/
That being said, I love the gruntal line. I have it in both my kitchen and bathroom. Actually, I would be more incline to use the bathroom gruntal line in the kitchen, because it tends to me shallower, which in my tiny kitchen is a big plus.
What a great idea. It looks like it was meant to be there.

Jose A - my first thought is that this isn't grundtal, either. i clearly know my ikea products a little too well and i'm glad i'm not the only one :)
i've been in hotels where they have the towels stored on a similar rack high in the shower. i was suspicious at first, but surprisingly the towels don't get wet.
ugh. sarah, you've commented on almost every post today with a link to your blog. at doesn't like that! "Comments must reflect the subject under discussion. Do not use the comment threads purely to promote your own site, product, or business"
I use IKEA shelves like this in my bathroom. I have a *very* tiny house with no closets for anything, including linens, so a shelf is the only storage in there. I like the open slats - it feels less imposing that way, and you can get little pots to hang off the bar, which we use for toothbrushes.
However, I would NOT recommend putting these IN your shower like this! I did the same thing with that corner shelf there (well, three of them) and within 7 months it was dripping rust down my wall. I can only imagine the bigger shelves would do the same.
I'm confused. Are you saying the pic is of Ikea Grundtal rails & shelf? Because that's not Ikea Grundtal. I use Grundtal rails and hooks on the back of my bathroom door, along with Lidan baskets. I also use wall mounted Asker containers near the sink.
Hey, I can afford this, as opposed to the Restoration Hardware train shelving I lust after.
TheLiberator - But the queen of DIY must let everyone know how much she likes everything! Also, because she is spamming her website I refuse to visit it, I would otherwise as it sounds interesting. Funny how rebellious my brain is.
I don't recommend placing any IKEA shelves around water. Do yourself a favor and buy the better, more expensive brand. There's a reason why it costs more.
too bad this isn't the grundtal. :) it's pretty, though. like thaumata, i think it'd be covered in rust within a few months.
Thanks to those who caught our mistake, the post has been corrected, but carry on with storage and organizational ideas for this type of system in your bathroom (in or out of the shower).

For some, this might be organization. For me, this is just encouraging clutter. How many toilet tools does one need? This is nearly a full fireplace poker set -- What, no shoehorn?
I would think twice about drilling holes in tile to put up a metal shelf like this. When it starts to get old or rust and you want to remove it someday, you are going to be left with some ugly holes. Then what are you going to do? Try to find something that fits in those holes to cover them up. That tile will long outlast the shelf.
@gettingthere: Yup, I had the same thought. I ended up using command performance strips to hang some of the fixtures. For the things I did drill, I made sure that I had a handful of extra tiles, for when the time comes to remove and patch the area. Its usually a good idea to keep extra tiles just in case anyway.
I have the grundtal kitchen rail in my bathroom because I just didn't have enough room in my tub area for the bathroom series. Since my bathtub is totally surrounded by subway tile, I opted to drill holes in the wall, opposite from my shower head, above the tile. It's been in there for quite a few months and I have no window or fan. So far, no inkling of rust. And I don't think it will since it's stainless steel. Above all else, it is GREAT shower storage. I have the shelf with all my shampoos, conditioners, shavers, etc. And I picked up the cute, white ceramic jar (asker) to hold any combs or brushes.
lol...funny comments! I do need one of those hotel style towel holders...sources for reasonably priced (under $50) for those?
Would a shelf like that rust? Might be a stupid question, I've never used those Ikea shelves because I don't live near an Ikea, so I'm not sure what they're made out of. Looks great, though!
hmm, well i don't know about shelves, but i hung a bygel basket (something like this: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90072648) from the shower curtain hooks and it's made the best shower caddy in a bathtub with no room for anything. (there isn't even an edge to set things on!)
it's been there for over a year without a bit of rust.
