It takes a special kind of artistic vision to transform a plain black three-drawer dresser into the centerpiece of your child's bedroom. It takes something else altogether to make that transformation happen while eight months pregnant! Kylie has both the vision and that something else and pulled off the transformation brilliantly.

Amazing work! After countless inquiries from visitors to her Wallfry blog Kylie decided to provide a step-by-step tutorial on her upholstered drawer makeover. She used the Ikea Malm, but you could try this on any similar set of drawers. She assures us that it is a quick and easy project that she was able to complete in one evening. While we think it may take some of us a wee bit longer, it is certainly a makeover worth trying.
And if you are wondering about the very cool art above the dresser, it is also Kylie's handiwork, available at her Etsy shop.

White Enamel Four-P...
That is truly awesome. Good thoughts. I have the white one.....
That's great!
your etsy shop is totally amazing! love the dresser also. i usually am not a fan of different colored drawers. but this is a job well done.
sorry, but I am just not a fan of this...too much color and patterns going on.
Thanks so much for the lovely comments on the shop, it is my third baby!
It is totally ok to not like the colors & patterns. You can select whatever color fabrics that you like to match your tastes and decor (you could even have all three the same block color, or the same as your bedding).
Couldn't you do with with cornstarch paste also (same method as wallpapering fabric)?
I haven't tried wallpapering fabric before so couldn't really comment on this idea, but if you think it would work, go for it!
If you want the upholstered look though I am don't think it would work. Glue on the wadding would only give it a bumpy crusty feel and I am not sure it would hold if you only used it at the back.
It's adorable.I wouldn't be so good at picking coordinating fabric.
I put different wallpaper squares on the top and then added glass. They ar elose so I can always change them.
I also added some doorknobs from Anthropology sale bin. The scale is alot of fun.
I'm thinking you could adapt this same idea to an office using cork or similar material--place for business cards, notes, etc.
umm, the concept is interesting. but not a fan of the actual fabric chosen.
These prints wouldn't be my choice either, but it's still a good idea. I was thinking of doing this myself, but using adhesive shelf liner instead of batting/fabric. I've been putting it off because I can't find any shelf liner I like, but obviously there are many more fabric options...
I think it's really fun and I love the fabric. How would it survive in a kid's room, though? Unless you Scotchguard the fabric or something...
