We're quite fond of IKEA around these parts, but check out how the company courts home shoppers in Paris.
They've built living room setups in four Parisian subway stations, giving riders a comfy spot to wait for the next train while testing Ektorp and Kalstad sofas. The installations will be around for two weeks. So creative and fun — similar to the DC Metro takeovers by IKEA! Reason number 3,527,901 why we love IKEA.

smart but gross after a couple weeks.
a couple weeks? They probably didn't survive the second day ...you'd need to change them every day... if not several times a day.
Nice marketing strategy however, but I feel sorry for the sacrificed sofas...
This would NOT last a second in NYC...haha.
Fair enough point, but how many people sit in the fabric covered chairs of chains like McDonald's, Starbucks etc, that have never been cleaned, and don't even bat an eyelid?
My first thought was vandals, more than hygiene. But I think it's a great marketing strategy... and the sofas look fabulous in the subway setting!
No not vandals. Homeless.
The seats/benches already in the metro are taken up by the homeless sleeping on them, I havent yet seen these myself, but I imagine they have already been "claimed"
Though it is a fun idea, not at all practical.
That's my changing stop (St. Lazare) to and from work and when I was there on Thursday there were security guards there. I can't imagine how else they would keep those couches there. But I'm not sure they'll be able to keep them clean - security guards or not.
Now *that* is a good advertisement. I'd like more advertisements to make my public life easier, thank you very much.
Reminds me of the best advertisement I know of, ever. It was of course Ikea creating a big square lounge in Zurich's central train station.
I'ts just great!
I works near one of these stations and it's so funny to see how strange it could be to wait for the metro in a sofa and see people looking at you just like (for one second) they're not sure anymore to be where they are... ("are they all in my home???")
I can assure you it's funny how a seat can change everything!
It all just makes me miss Paris so much more; cry-sob-sniffle.
But everything does, so ...
My first thought was how it wouldn't last a day...between vandals and just too much traffic, those couches will soon be in shreds.
What will they think of next? Brilliant marketing on IKEA's part- always thinking outside of the box...
Love the fire extinguisher!
