You might remember that last year, IKEA unveiled an augmented reality app to integrate with their 2013 catalog. This year, they've improved on that feature with an updated app for the 2014 catalog — and judging from the video preview below, it seems like a helpful tool to help customers make better educated guess about whether a new couch would fit/work within their own home or apartment...
Say you're sitting at home, browsing the new catalog and trying to picture what the Stockholm sofa would look like in your living room. Before making a trip to the store, you can visualize how the sofa will fill your space with the magic of AR. Simply launch the app, scan a page from a printed IKEA catalog, place the catalog wherever you want the furniture to be, and then view a live video of your room with a 3D-rendered overlay of the furniture.
