We admit it: we have an issue a thing for customization, which is why almost every icon on our desktop has changed from the default. Not everyone has the same taste and there are a lot of options to make your desktop exactly that, your desktop. Here are some of the best resources to spice up your screen space...
DeviantArt: This is our go-to icon source. DeviantArt's gallery is like an antiques shop, as you'll need to rummage through pages of icon designs to find the gems worth keeping. But that's half the fun, as the quantity and diversity of icons make it a great place to start your customization project.
Iconfactory: Our icon addiction began with Iconfactory. The site offers plenty of well designed icons that look like they belong to a modern operating system. Apple's former UI designer used to call the site home too!
Icon Archive: If there's such thing as an icon graveyard to go pillaging through, this is it. When you have no other option, the Icon Archive might be the place to try and get what you want.

I can't say how much I appreciate Unplggd for not calling this "icon collecting." I'm so sick of all the collecting posts and this could have easily been one of them.
