Late in the afternoon yesterday the husband informed me he had invited another couple to our apartment for pre-dinner cocktails. I was hoping I'd have an opportunity to pick up fresh flowers on my way home but that didn't pan out. Then, as I was walking into our building, I spied the ingredients for a cute little arrangement.
Using decorative grasses and potato vines from the container garden outside our building, I was able to put together a little summer arrangement. It doesn't always take flowers to create natural bouquets. A lot of plants that grow outside can be cut, dropped in a container of water, and used as an impomptu arrangement.

And if none of your guests are allergic, you're fine. Is the container garden yours? Or is it communal?
I LOVE it! It's so pretty :) I always prefer "natural" arrangements over fussy flowers, anyway. I had to fight my florist because my wedding bouquet was just a bunch of "filler," according to her :)
@FantasticMrFaux, great question. You were a little subtler than what I wan to say which is: Plants that grow outside AND belong to you are great for a little arrangement. People should understand that picking flowers that don't belong to you is generally not okay. I say this as someone who gardens and likes landscaping.
And it looks like the best part of some purple fountain grass was cut. I hope it was a mature plant w/ plenty of blooms. I just planted five of these last week and I would be pissed if I walked outside and saw that someone had cut them.
