It's that wonderful time of year again! My neighbor recently handed me her copy of the Annual Lee Valley Garden Catalogue and it is just full of goodies. Of course it can be a dangerous read – there any far too many neat things within its pages, and as usual my desire is far bigger than my budget!
I may be safe in assuming that most Re-nesters already know and love Lee Valley, but in case the name doesn't ring a bell I highly recommend checking them out. You can view an environmentally-friendly version of their catalogue online - which actually retains a bit of that mail-order quality in it's digital presentation.
One of my favorite items in this year's selection is the Potmaker. This Canadian-made device is used to transform newspaper into little propagation containers, perfect for seedlings and transplants. It is a great alternative to the commonly used plastic pots and trays, plus the newspaper vessel can be planted directly into the ground! Cute and convenient, I think I can work with the $15.50 price tag.
When it come to watering these wee plants I might give their Bottle-top Waterer a try. The four-pack, only $4.95 allows for quick modification of the ever popular pop bottle watering can. The different heads allow for a variety of streams rather than the over-drenching glug glug normally associated with these containers.
I was also terribly enamored with the push /reel mowers, despite the fact that I have no lawn. Ok, I won't be adding one to my shopping list but if I ever have grass to cut it would definitely be something like this. The price points range from $99 to $159, depending on the size – which is a wonderful deal on a quality made machine.
There are literally hundreds of ingenious and practical products to marvel at in this year's catalogue. Their well-curated collection has something for just about everyone, so I'm thinking to do some guilt-free gift buying and maybe sneak a few surprises in for myself. You know, to save on shipping and all...
