We are obsessed and can't get enough of tripod floor lamps. About 6 months ago, we found a Santa & Cole tripod lamp that was out of the budget, but beautiful to admire. So we set out to find ourselves several tripod lamp options in a variety of prices and styles to share today.
The beauty of the tripod lamp is it complements almost any style of interior. Because the lamp typically has an oversized drum shade, it adds drama to the room. If you want to impress your guests, buy a tripod floor lamp.

Thanks for posting. I just saw one at a West Elm showroom, but I can't find it on their website or catalog
doesn't walmart carry one?
I LOVE the Santa & Cole lamp so much, but at over $1000, I'll spraypaint the Target lamp tripod black!
A classic, yet one I've never embraced. They've always felt a bit unstable to me. (This coming from a person who recently knocked a floor lamp into a window.)
A word of warning -- last year I spent months considering which one floor lamp to choose for my small apartment -- looking at photos, exploring sites, visiting stores -- and I was yearning for one of these tripods (a couple of the ones I looked at are shown above). Then I really paid atttention to the measurements and marked out the floor space it would cover, and taped a couple of yardsticks together to see how tall it would be. One of these lamps would have eaten my living room, particularly visually. Some of them are gorgeous but they are very big.

You're so right - These all need lots of space around them to be visually effective.
If you live in a small space where storage is at a premium, stick w/ an end table w/ drawers and a table lamp on top.
The Tracy from Usona is also an amazing tripod floor lamp. The solid walnut base is gorgeous.

CB2 used to have a very nice tripod lamp, similar to the Santa & Cole one but of course much less expensive. But I had the same experience as Deborah - it would never have worked in my small living room.
I have this lamp...It took me months to decide on one, but I love it. Great quality, and looks great http://www.westelm.com/products/w236/?pkey=x%7C4%7C1%7C%7C6%7Cadjustable%20floor%20lamp%7C%7C0&cm_src=SCH
Yes, Walmart does have a tripod lamp, online: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Kenroy-Home-Stilts-One-Light-Floor-Lamp-in-Brushed-Steel/12350391
I also love the Santa & Cole but can't swing the price tag. I with the Target version was a little more refined, the middle ring bugs me.
and by 'with' I meant WISH...
I really love the Sandy Chapman one - gorgeous!
none of the alternatives have quite the right proportions. all of the joints are within or right under the lampshade, and I much prefer the look of the criss-cross, 'figure eight' shape of the santa & cole. there must be another, better option out there. the design isn't exactly novel.
I love Oslo Wood by Northern Lighting, http://www.northernlighting.no/pdf/oslo.pdf
And not just because I live in Oslo :-)
It's not huge at all so you can have it in smaller rooms too. Here's an example in a small apartment listed on Norwegian real estate for sale site Finn: http://www.finn.no/finn/realestate/homes/viewimagewide?reference=4/211/110/14_-1515653627.jpg&finnkode=21111014
I think they are so beautiful, but as some have mentioned, they can eat up a space. Too bad that they use up so much floor space.
Solvi - Thanks for sharing both the product link for the Oslo Wood floor lamp and the photo showing it in a small space. It is absolutely stunning and beautiful in the small apartment.
The concept and construction seem so simple and yet elegant. I wonder if anyone has tried constructing one at home. It doesn't look that difficult. The one from the Pottery Barn could easily be immated with an actual tripod (of course not as pretty) for someone on a tight budget.
Etsy seems to be a decent place to find handmade tripod lamps. Much better prices than at places like Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware. One seller has a whole store dedicated to them! http://www.etsy.com/shop/HandmadeLights?ref=seller_info
