Every parent has their bag of tricks for entertaining their kids in tough times - in waiting rooms, on long car rides, when they're sick, etc. In my opinion, Little Dover Activity books are one of the best things to stock in your entertainment arsenal.
Their virtues are many:
- they're cheap (usually $1.50)
- they're small and portable (around 4" x 6")
- they have no licensed characters
- they're easy to find (bookstores, gift shops, Amazon, etc.)
- they cover a wide range of activities and ages
There are sticker books, connect the dots, coloring, mazes, tattoos and more. My son is currently in a serious maze phase - he can't get enough and the maze books have about 50 mazes each.
Keep these little gems in mind as stocking stuffers, to pop in the mail to nieces, nephews and young friends or to stock up on before heading out on a long trip. Check them out or purchase at Dover Publications.

I love, love, love Dover publications.
great party favors too!
These are the best! I love that they are cheap enough to stock up on. I always try to keep a few on hand.
I love these too. The little sticker books are great to have on hand when you need busy hands and quiet mouths and the coloring books are excellent. One of the best perhaps only source for noncommercial coloring books. Great party favors.
Plus amazon reviews are hilarious. "I was so upset to find out this $2 sticker book was so small." Usually 4 for 3 on amazon.
And OMG. I didn't even know they had mazes.
Lifesavers for restaurant waits! I'd pick up a few in advance of a family outing and tuck them in my bag for when the little ones' patience started wearing thin. 3 young kids, I tell you: Best bribe ever. Plus they loved getting good behavior comments at the exit!
Thanks so much for the love! I've just started working at Dover and now we're on Facebook (/doverpublications) and Pinterest (/doverpublishing). We'd love to connect!
