Regal and rugged— it's no wonder we swoon whenever we see these majestic beasts gracing the walls of modern homes. Given the graphic, dramatic nature of the subjects, we see the works of artists like the famed Roberto Dutesco, continuing to make a wild splash in the interior design world this year. Here are some favorites from the past.
Like their tailored, stable-dwelling counterparts, wild horses have an air of classic about them, but they don't carry the same weight of pretension that some instantly associate with the polo-playing equine genre. In a modern home, large scale equine portraits can add just the right amount of lively, free-spirited magic to cut the cold edge that often goes hand in hand with clean contemporary lines.
The first four rooms all boast dramatic works from Roberto Dutesco's Sable Island series. Sable Island, also known as the "Graveyrad of the atlantic" is home to over 300 wild horses, who continue to draw the attention of talented photographers like Mr. Dutesco.
• 1.,3. From the famed Wellesly home designed by Christine Lane Interiors.
• 2. Thom Filicia's Big Chill showhouse continues to be one of the most exciting from the past year. His use of the oversize Dutesco photograph has the perfect mix of drama and elegance.
• 4. While we love the large scale prints, even a small Dutesco photograph delivers a high, emotionally charged impact, especially in contrast to the pristine white room in Peri Wolfman and Charley Gold's Hampton country house.
Check out more of Dutesco's Sable Island pictures here.
Some of our other favorite wild horse photographs are from the illustrious hands of Claude Steelman and Lynne Pomeranz.
And what about you, are you digging the dramatic look as much as we are?

sigh, at the risk of sounding like a second grade version of myself, i don't think you can go wrong with horses in art.
I'm in love with these huge, colorful and slightly abstract horse paintings from Katie Upton. They are the size of my sofa and way out of my price range :( http://www.katieupton.com/
But I got my mom a print or glicee (sp?) a few years ago, and it's gorgeous.
I am glad this is posted so my want of horse images are validated, and so my significant other can see past the 12 year old girl in me.
One of my favorite photographers did a brilliant series of horses, they are here:

Thank you Melissaann, the Eastman photographs are beautiful.
Not so much.
I have been a huge fan of Michael Eastman and his photos are the best photographs of horses I have ever seen. He also helped when I reached out to him to try and ban sending american horses to be eaten for their horse meat in japan and europe. He loves his subject. I wish I could afford one of his large pieces but his book of his horse shots will have to do for now.
I liked the idea initially, but after seeing these five photos I'm already tired of it. Please, no more wildlife decor.
Heres a link to the picture that I want over my mantle- can't afford it at the moment though:(

I like the horse print and I like the hide pillows and ottomans in photo 1--but I'm not sure I'd want both in the same room.
My brother is a photographer and has some affordable horse photographs on his blog, if anyone is interested. Though, the buffalo is my personal favorite.

The Pioneer Woman has some hi-res horse photos you can download from her site: http://thepioneerwoman.com/photography/category/high-res-downloads/
I would like to print icy fog or sea of mustangs to hang above my piano.
http://www.howard-gallery.com/stevemessenger.html This artist does some really cool horse paintings. I love that he captures the funny, silly side of the horses.
I wouldn't do horses myself, but I really like the size and scale and style of the ones in #1 and #3.
OrangeG -- thanks for the link, I love her pics.
my friend is a graphic designer @ his gallery here is SoHo.
