Reading to my son is a wonderful bedtime ritual, but he's getting a bit big for my lap and I've been fantasizing about a cozy chair we could share together - side by side. It's been awhile since we checked out "chair and a half" options so I thought I'd see what was out there, especially something that might find a home in the living room down the line.
Both Room & Board and Crate & Barrel have numerous "chair and a half options" (above are the most comfy looking ones) and I'd like to think this isn't due to Americans' expanding waistlines.
Do you have a "chair and a half" to recommend?

Shaw's Original Fir...
I've been dying to get one of these. I wouldn't waste it on a kid's room or nursery where it will only get used once or twice a day. I would put it in the living room and lounge in that baby all the time.
I'd love something like this in my 2 year old's room (not that it would fit). We have a chair in there now, but it's really not comfortable for more than one person (even if the second person is tiny).
I'm all about comfort in the kids' rooms though. We got my six year old a queen bed last year so we could all snuggle in together for story time.
The Stockholm chair from Ikea. It's pricey but worth every penny! My boyfriend describes my favorite use of it as my "Kindle-curl", because it's the perfect cozy reading chair. And I have it in a light dove gray which would easily work in a nursery (though mine lives very happily in my living room).
These are great. I would loooove to snuggle up with my kiddo and read in one of those. I'd been looking at "regular" chairs, but you may have just made me a convert.
Here's a link to the chair I mentioned: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80103155/
I don't like these at all. They are look clumsy and shapeless. Of course, with the supersizing of the American behind, this is probably what we are stuck with.
A small couch would be much better looking.
I have a "Cuddler" from ZGallerie and I adore it:

I think it comes in other fabrics (or rather, I know it used to). Two average sized women can snuggle up in just fine, so it would be perfect for a parent + kiddo. The BEST place to watch a movie on a snowy afternoon....
How about a storytime rocking chair like http://www.haltaylor.com/Pages/reading_rocking_chair1.html
I was lucky. My kids favorite (ans economical) place for us to all read together was inside a cardboard box with some blankets and the dog.
I have always wanted to be able to afford this leather one from restoration hardware: http://www.restorationhardware.com/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod80138&categoryId=cat1537048.
We went with a chair and a half in my son's nursery, since we have a rocker elsewhere in the house. It was perfect for feedings, and visiting grandparents agree that it's wonderful for story time. Ours is scotch-guarded & still looks brand new after 2.5 years. Baby #2 is on the way, though, and my want to have them share a room is hampered by the size of the chair. I don't want to lose our guest room, but we can't imagine not having that chair in his room!
Get one of these chairs. You will not regret it!

It seems to make sense since its seating two?
I would get a small couch. Unfortunately all of our furniture is either Ikea or mid-century modern, and not every comfortable for snuggling (shallow seats, low backs). We have a lot of floor pillows, but when you're in the third trimester, sitting on the ground isn't that comfortable. Blame it on my supersized American behind!
My mom always read to me from a big gray Levitz overstuffed chair and a half, but that thing was too damn small by the time I was like four. (I'm six feet tall all grown up now.) I agree that these can look a bit clunky and would be sleeker with a tiny loveseat or couch -- you never know how big or wiggly your kid is going to wind up being. And what if you want two kids to clamber in for story time at once?
We have the Storytime Rocker by Nurseryworks (the second picture you show). It has been wonderful. It's great for late night rocking and you can sit your child next to you when you read books to a toddler. It was in my older daughter's room for 3 years and is now in my 2 1/2 year old's room. 5 1/2 years of daily use and it still looks great. Eventually when we convert the nursery to a big girl room, we'll move the chair to the playroom.
We have an AU twin sleeper that we use. One parent with two kids fit together nicely to read stories. When cousins come over, we open up the bed. The microfiber is extremely child-friendly. We grew up with a similar round chair-and-a-half that my sisters and I STILL fight over!
