We recently posted about a DIY project in which you could make your own PVC laptop stand. It's got kind of a nice industrial look. However, if you can't make it yourself, you can buy something quite similar. The AIAIAI Lab A-Stand looks strikingly similar and has the added bonus of being portable.
The A-Stand is based on a PhD design by Dan Steingart. It serves as a functional and practical way of improving the ergonomics of your work station, if it's at work, at home, or while traveling. The look is inspired from plumbing tubes and polished so that it can easily be transported around without taking too much space of weighing your laptop bag down.
We really like the simple shape and form that this stand takes. Although this is really functional, we find that paying $70 for a bunch of plastic piping a bit much. That being said, you can easily copy Steingart's design by using some light PVC tubing. Sure, it won't look as nice, but it's cost you just a few bucks, just like the other PVC laptop stand we featured. The design is simple enough. You just have to make sure that you don't take too heavy tubing and that your laptop fits in between the two arms.

Great post! Any other recommendations for collapsable stands like these? This pain in my neck is getting old...

Just to connect the dots fully: Lifehacker dug up a Make article about an Instructable I posted in 2005. The kind folks at AIAIAI contacted me about a year and a half ago with an idea to make a commercial product based on that design, I said sure. Apparently the dude you linked to also based his design on my original PVC thing.
It's pretty awesome that a quick hack I did in 2005 is still relevant and garnering interest four years later. Thanks for the link.
