I just wanted to write and say that contrary to what some in the news media are saying, not all baby slings are being recalled! The Infantino Sling Rider is what is known in the baby sling industry as a "bag sling" which baby carrier advocates have never recommended as a safe carrier for babies. The infantino carrier is not the same as a ring sling or a pouch. The safest position for an infant under 4 months is in an upright, or tummy to tummy position. For more information, contact a baby sling advocate near you!
This thing looks like a duffel bag.
I'm not surprised that this specific sling has been recalled, as the loose, low carry has always struck me as a hazard.
I do hope however that this recall does not turn parents off of slings all together. As a mother who carried her son in various slings and carriers from the time he was 3 days old I know that slings can be a save and effective way to give new babies the snuggle time they need while allowing parents the freedom to move and get things done!
It's all about awareness and using your carrier properly. Check out the BabyWearer for great advice and resources on wearing your baby close! http://www.thebabywearer.com/
i agree, calebmom. awareness & using your carrier (or any baby product) properly is key.
i havent even had my daughter yet, but i have registered for a more upright, tummy to tummy model, rather than a sling.
