A: Paul, you might consider an extension table, which will allow you to keep things compact while you're working but can give you room to spread out when you're entertaining. We've rounded up a few options below.
Another piece we've seen used as both desk and dining table is the Strut by Blu Dot. It's a little narrower than a regular dining table, so it functions well as a desk. It's also got a nice structural base that looks cool in a larger loft area.
