There's typically a very fine line that separates successful ultra-romantic design and the slightly over the top variety. This type of whimsy is also subjective so what is perfect to some can be too much for others. Putting that all aside, there's nothing wrong with infusing a splash of romance into everyday design.
The bedroom is a good room room to try embrace your more romantic tendencies. It's already a space that lends itself to soft, restful, cool colors. To take the room to that next level is actually quite simple. If you don't have the classic four poster bed — hang silky curtains from your ceiling at each corner of the bed to get the illusion of a canopy. Pick soft colors for the walls and don't skimp on fun and interesting artwork and accessories because they make a huge impact - this look is not about stripped down surfaces, but rather the layering of color, texture and pattern. Take some risks and chances are you'll end up with a fun and interesting room with that perfect splash of romantic whimsy.

4 and 5 are incredibly un-sexy to me. I can't imagine getting "in the mood" in a bed with pennants hanging over it!!!
Also, 3 is awesome.
I would like 1 in a different color scheme...Give me pennants over a cluttered bus any day :).
I see Catalog Living commentary all over these.
I get the whimsy and fun, but such beat-up furnishings say "impoverished," which to me is about as far as possible from "romantic." People who never visited actual impoverished homes may have romanticized perceptions. I never liked even shabby chic since it's more depressing to me than charming. No problem, it takes all kinds to make the world go 'round.
Absolutely nothing wrong with over the top. 'Despot it yourself'!
#1 and #3 are my whimsical nightmare! I like a touch of whimsy...maybe? But those have so much clutter in them it would make my anal retentive head explode.
Wait a minute . . . #3 is not a bedroom. It is a van.
I think the first is absolutely beautiful. It doesn't look very cluttered to me at all, just colourful.
I think the first one is beautiful, too. It was a couple of the others that struck me as unromantic, plus a couple of the others look like kids' rooms, which to me is very unromantic.
I love these, they feel very cozy and homey. I am glad to see photos of places that are finally less sterile...
The van's hilarious! I LOVE #1. Talk about fantasy.
