When we repainted our bathroom, the previous rug had to go. But rather than donating it or storing it long term, we decided to reuse it immediately. We hadn't given much thought to having a rug in our mini-hallway before but we plopped it down in hopes that we'd like the addition...
And we did! Right away, the space felt cozier and inviting. Plus, it's a good way to move your eyes through the space by pulling focus through to the next room. Even though we already owned our small rug, they're quite inexpensive at stores like IKEA, Target and Cost Plus World Market. We've also had luck before on Craigslist and thrift stores--and because they're small, they clean up easily in the washing machine.

Um. I don't really see it. Maybe because the rug is so scruffy...
When you have wood floors cats, it's good to have many rug areas to catch bits of debris. I love clean bare floors on bare feet, but little kitty litter bits and furballs are not so nice.

My cat would use throw rugs like this to go sledding - full run from across the room and zoom!
The rug appears to be floating. Kinda 3 dimensional and not a part of the room but superimposed on/into the photo.
Sorry, I really don't think this works. The colours and the size/proportion are both wrong. I do think a rug here might work though, maybe a round one to take the squareness off the area.

It just seems unnecessary to me.
And besides, you have lovely floorboards – why cover them?
Well, the rug DOES define the space, but I think the apartment looks larger if you don't. One flooring all the way through makes the rooms seem connected, rather than three separate areas.
They also sell rugs like this at Pier 1.

If you put those little throw rugs in a high-traffic area, they get kicked around a lot. You end up having to fix it constantly. Better to put this particular rug in front of a chair or something like that. I think a larger, round rug with some sort of non-slip pad would work better here (if you really, really want something on the floor there; I don't think it's necessary).
sorry, I agree that the rug looks scruffy. And also prone to slip a lot, on a high-traffic area like that surely it would be annoying.

Personally I do not love the placement of the rug, but if you leave it there I hope you get a non-slip pad so you do not hurt yourself.

Well, I guess I'm in the minority that likes the change. I think this little rug is perfect for breaking up the space a little, but it blends in enough with the floor that it's not a major change. And it does 'cozify' the space!
