It's been awhile since we made mention of De Gournay for their lavish wallpapers. While checking out some of their different paper selections recently, we came across this interesting angled framing idea. Click through the jump for a larger version and our thoughts on the arrangement.

Although hanging frames at an angle like this wasn't really on our radar of things to do, we love the look and the intimacy it brings to the room. Even though the ceilings are high, it brings things back down and keeps the room feeling warm and collected. We're curious to see how this might look with artwork that isn't of the same color or with different sizes of frames.

If you visit historical homes many have paintings hung in a similar manner though not nearly as high.
Hmmm. Why would you hang a picture so high that only the very tall or those blessed with perfect eyesight could see it?
Although I do love the wallpaper.
Wait a second I recognize this room!!!
That's not an actual room in a house or even in a store, it was an exhibit of McDermott and McGough's photographs in the Dublin museum of contemporary art last year!
The whole exhibit was made to look like a late victorian room, in aquaintance with the artist's work (fake 19th century photography done with period techniques).
It's probably very bad Feng Shui (it would sort of feel like the pictures were about to fall on you at any moment) but I like the look of it. It does make the room more cozy.
ugh. so wrong! especially in combo with that one lower picture that is flat against the wall. it just looks anxiety inducing.
Hate it! The pictures look like they're going to fall down on you... and also like they're glaring at you. Plus, it makes the ceiling feel closed-in and shorter.

A lot of Japanese people hang pictures this way. I've never seen them hung at eye level in a Japanese home, and they're often angled down. I'm not really keen on it as a look really, but I think it's popular in Japan because of all the wood trim in most places which you can hang pictures off of without damaging the walls.
I love the wallpaper, but something about the way the pictures are hung gives me a creepy haunted house feeling!
Daniel Potiers, I recognised it from IMMA in Dublin too. And as I recall, the most impressive thing about that room was in fact the wallpaper. I remember thinking that it was a shame the person who had hand-painted said wallpaper wasn't given a credit in the exhibition...

Just what is the point of hanging pictures where you can't actually see them?
If you're going to put up wallpaper like that you might as well lose the pictures anyway.
like others i prefer pictures where i can see them. i also think it is destroying any kind of balance the room might have otherwise.

It looks like an installation, not a home. Certainly not MY home!
This might make more sense if there was 5' high wainscoting around the room...
...but there isn't, so it just looks goofy.
