Artist Dale Chihuly is best known for his vibrant, colorful glass works that infuse organic forms with a Burtonesque sense of whimsy. The artwork pictured is titled "Persian Ceiling" and is an installation that was featured at the MFA Boston as a part of his series "Through the Looking Glass."

I saw the Chihuly show when it was in San Francisco and it was amazing!
I covet. :) I've been wanting to buy some of those vases from Anthropologie for a while now. I'm being patient and buying shelves to put them on first...hoping they will go on sale by the time I have a place to put them!
I love Chihuly and have been to several exhibits, but for some reason, my eyes read: "Inspiration Board: Cthulhu".
Love Chihuly! Great picks!
Lovely! I love this floral ceiling art print: http://society6.com/jainaism/ceiling-flowers_Print
love it! the print (top left) looks like the horrokses bedding I posted about today
At this point, given that he doesn't actually execute his own work, is Chihuly more of a designer than an artist? Wikipedia describes him as an 'art entrepreneur'.
And as either a designer or an artist, is he kind of over? His work doesn't seem to have evolved in the last 15 years or so.
@siobhan.
Not that I'm familiar with him, but--as an innovator, maybe he's over? But as an established brand, apparently not. And I thought we were all scornful about trends, anyway.
I love our permanent Chihuly in OKC.
Whenever I see the name "Chihuly" I think "Cthulhu."
And don't forget the ceiling in the lobby of the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas.
His exhibition at Miami's Fairchild Garden was incredibly lovely. See his work if you get the opportunity.
Shaare Emeth, my temple in St. Louis, features windows in the synagogue that are by Chihuly-they are so lovely. And I can't even count them times I've visited his installation at the Missouri Botanical Gardens.
In Seattle, we got over/got bored by Chihuly a loooooong time ago. Funny that for most of us here, his works suggest dull corporate art rather than the avant garde.
Sort of an Andy Warhol but not quite Thomas Kinkade. To be fair though all artists had the
"studio system"...think of all those haystacks.
I think of Chihuly as an "installation artist"..his things do seem more appropriate to corporate
or huge settings than private homes. But they are more able to afford it...just a smart businessman.
We are fortunate to have a Chihuly gallery here locally. The experience is amazing....
The ceiling....OOOoooOOO... can I get that in a giant print somewhere? I have a big blank wall on which that would be perfect.
I just LOVE Chihuly...in my hometown, there's an art museum with two of his installations. I want to get married there someday, because who needs decor when you've got giant, beautiful glass sculptures?
