The most recent issue of Lonny Magazine featured J. Crew's Upper East Side store, designed by the company's Creative Director, Jenna Lyons.. While the entire store is impeccably styled with vintage lighting, pops of color, and distinct details, we were really struck by the boldly striped bathroom (that mimics Ms. Lyon's own).
We've seen bold stripes painted in hallways and even throughout an entire living room. We are not quite daring enough to dedicate that much space to stripes, but a bathroom seems like the perfect room to take such a design risk.
What do you think? To stripe or not to stripe?

Whoa...really brave. But I like it. A LOT. :-)
I can't stand that, WOW. I'm already dizzy. Her own bathroom is like that too? I hope she's never sick or intoxicated...
I like the stripes, but I think stripes over molding is too much. It makes me dizzy too. I think it would be a lot less visually confusing without the extra molding.
I really can't bear it. Not just the stripes but the molding and the poorly sized (and placed, and hung) art. I SO dislike this Lonny magazine. What a poor substitute for Domino. And if you are going to design a "magazine" for the web, for God's sake use type styles and design that work for the medium--I think those turnable PDFs are the dumbest invention ever.
Too much "look" for me personally, but that bathroom looks fab.
Besides giving me a headache, the stripes make me feel like I'm in a cage. Just a little too claustrophobic for me.
too much. Perhaps if the contrast between the stripes were more subtle, I'd like it better.... then again I am not a big fan of painted stripes.
I think it might have been interesting to paint the horizontal rail all black. It might have made the vertical stripes work better.
All that beautiful woodwork ruined by a horrid paint job. So sad :(
I'd like it better if the stripes were somewhat more subtle...
I love it....
Kudos on the concept, but like many of my own personal color projects, it doesn't quite deliver. Perhaps grey/white stripes with lavender flowers in a silver vase instead of shucka-pow! stripes would be prettier/more romantic.
Oooo! Headache!
Yeah, I can't take this for very long. I don't think the moulding helps at all. But if she likes it, then go all out!
Every time I see that someone has garishly painted the molding in their home, I want to weep. I have spent the last six months stripping the molding in my parents home of the horrible colors it was painted in an effort to restore it to a normal looking color. This would be a deal-breaker if I was thinking about buying the home with this paint job.
Looks like a preppy jail.
I love it! Interior designer Molly Luetkemeyer also incorporated bold stripes in a recent design. Check out her Laurel Canyon transformation.

I love this look, but then again I am a big fan of stripes. I think if it were done in a room with less architectural detailing it might not turn off so many people.
Lonny or Loony?
If a referee or a prisoner wanted to hide in the room, they'd only have to stand in front of the wall!
I really don't like it because of the stripe/molding combination. Stripes are fine, and those wall panels look great, but together? I feel sad for the walls. And like someone is trying to hypnotize me.
I'm sorry, but that's just hideous.
I agree with theresaclare. It's the combo of lots of molding together with the bold stripes that I don't like. Blech.
I second the headache comment! Way too busy!
It's hard to make gorgeous moulding look hideous, but this has managed to achieve that.
