If you're anything like us (and Bridget) you've fantasized about re-designing your grandparents digs. We always wanted to rip up our grandparent's old, dusty carpet that was covering up beautiful hardwood floors. For now, we'll have to live through Bridget's amazing makeover. Not only did Bridget rip up the dated carpet, she also knocked down the entryway's wall to expose brick (which gives the room great texture and warmth).
The quickest way to update a vintage kitchen is by painting the cabinets white. Bridget also adds decorative paper to the doors which makes the kitchen cabinets stand out. Again, she exposes the original hardwood flooring and adds a retro kitchen table to the mix. Watch more of the transformation process here!

I would die to redo my grandparents' house. They just have SO. MUCH. STUFF. And everything is so drab and dated, like the before kitchen photo. And get this: a bathroom with blue wallpaper, blue carpet, blue toilet and blue bathtub.
I think what you have done looks amazing. I'm curious to know if your grandparents are happy with it. Was this done for them to continue living in there or was it done as a makeover to market the property for sale. Their personal touch seems to have been lost in the transition.
i like the window treatments on each side. i wonder if that would work of there was a door in between the two windows, like in my condo. i think they'd be too far away and disjointed. it's making me think though.
Oh I *really* love this. It's an incredible gift to be able to redo a space for one's grandparents and a privilege to be allowed to do it! I envy you that.
I followed the links to Bridget's blog (http://bridgetpizzo.blogspot.com) and that's actually her house. I love what she's done with it - especially since she's taken stuff found in thrift stores, on curbs and via craigslist, and then made it pretty.
Photogenic dogs never hurt either.

After looking through the pictures and reading her blog, this is not her grandparent's house. It might have been their old house, but she lives there now.
I get the sense from her Flickr set that this was her grandparent's house and is now hers, so it wouldn't be important if the grandparent's style was gone.

That's a beautiful room redo Bridget. I hope they really enjoy it. It's the promise of grandchildren like you that make it almost bearable to tolerate teenagers. Did I say "almost?" Yes? Good! ~:o)
Where did the fireplace in the living room come from? It doesn't look like it was there in the initial photo- or was it behind the grandfather clock?
