Inspiration: Wine Bottle Reuse During the Holidays

Drinking wine goes hand-in-hand with celebrating the holidays. So, rather than weighing down your recycling bin with party leftovers, why not find a holiday inspired way to reuse them around the house?

1. A Versatile Water Carafe. You don't need to just drink wine out of a bottle, switch it up and serve water or other beverages out of the bottle when the wine is gone. Your guests will think you're being super clever and it will require no work (besides a quick wash) or money on your part.

2. Wine Bottle Tree. Okay, so typically these are thought to keep evil spirits out of the house by luring them inside the colored bottles, where they cannot get out again. We think they'd do great double duty as a Christmas tree, Hanukkah bush, or just a general holiday bottle plant. Check out eHow's 5-step how-to here.

3. Vases. We'll be honest, even after taking a viticulture and enology class, we still choose our bottles based on their label design. Turn the bottles into house décor by easily using them as vases. If you're feeling particularly crafty turn them into wall-mounted vases by following this tutorial over at Design*Sponge.

4. Mood Lighting. Put some extra string lights in a wine bottle and you've got instant holiday mood lighting – get the instructions at design blog Wit & Whistle (via Lifehacker).

5. Wine Bottle Torch. We still love this how-to we wrote about during the summer. If you live in a warmer region, this DIY would still make a great exterior light, and would surely impress your party guests.
