The craft known as "yarn bombing" is super easy to do, and a great way to brighten up your living space. Here are a few inspirational examples of that and other ways you can dress up branches:
1 Bring yarn bombing indoors! Bust your yarn stash and yarn bomb found materials in your own home.
2 Sticx are beautifully painted sticks. This image has now been made into a Tshirt on Threadless.
3 Turn an old branch into a coat rack. Check out Love Aesthetics for more photos and learn how it's done.

I LOVE number three. I've been scouring blogs for great coat rack ideas. This one might have won me over...
I really like number one and would like to make a few of those into a headboard. Does anyone know a link where I can learn how to do that? Is knitting in a circle like that called something specific? thanks!!
knitting in a circle = knitting in the round. You can use circular or double pointed needles for that, or you can just knit a rectangle with straight needles and stitch it up with a crochet hook. For more info, check out yarn bombing: http://yarnbombing.com/ . For knitting in the round, try out youtube: http://www.google.ca/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=knitting+in+the+round&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&redir_esc=&ei=lmJMTb7kEY-asAPJ2LShCg#q=knitting+in+the+round&hl=en&client=safari&rls=en&prmd=ivns&source=univ&tbs=vid:1&tbo=u&ei=lmJMTbugMYvksQO11on1Cg&sa=X&oi=video_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CC8QqwQwAA&fp=a62a29930f4a450b Happy making!
Awesome.
@jhcanty: if knitting is not your thing, a lovely local designer shared a simple tutorial on how to craft gorgeous fabric branches from upcycled fabric & vintage doilies with my readers last fall.
