Inspiration: Ecotones

We can probably all admit to being swept off our feet by a powerful wooded landscape or a sea creature on a pristine beach, so it makes perfect sense to have our home's decor mimic the colors and nuances of the beauty the earth has to offer. We're not talking just "earth tones," here; no, ecotones go far beyond the warm browns and burnt umbers...

Ecotones invite blues, greens, and reds into the mix. As this article from Natural Home Magazine points out, nature's beauty has been a source of inspiration throughout time.

But ecotones go beyond colors, utilizing textures and contrast to add depth to a room's color scheme. Think of the fluidity of waves hitting the rough sand, and then bring that into play in a room. The author even points out that some colors are often used to signal focus (like bright wildflowers use to attract bees), and the same concept can be applied in decor.

We think having an environment-inspired room gives even more pause to why we make the effort to tread lightly on the earth, don't you?
